EnglishMasterAcademy.Com Language Learning Philosophy

Welcome to my website.  I wish you all the best in learning English and what it will bring to your life.

I made this site so that you can learn English well.  Most importantly, I made it so that you will be able to think in English, not just try to remember grammar rules and the phrases you studied.

There is a crucial difference between what we do at englishmasteracademy.com and what you are probably used to doing at a language school, or from language books.

As briefly as possible, I am going to explain my philosophy of language learning.

When you study English with me, you don’t study grammar rules the same way you study them at school.

Ask yourself why you don’t have to think of grammar rules in your own language before you speak.  You never do that, do you?  Why?  You don’t, because the language structure is already deeply embedded into your brain.

Grammar is not so much rules to be learned, as it is a habit to be practiced.

So, the first thing you may notice when you start with one of my lessons is that there are charts everywhere.  Why would I do that?  This is very simple.  All the grammar you need to learn is ALREADY IN THE CHART.

While you speak you are learning grammar without studying rules.

Secondly, when you practice with the charts, your grammar will naturally be correct 100% of the time.  With just one chart you can make hundreds of sentences.

Why is this important? It’s important because rather than learning a rule, you are actually making sentences within the grammar pattern…multiple sentences.

You gradually develop an intuitive feel for grammar, rather than trying to remember 100’s of rules before you speak.

Thirdly, have you ever been at home by yourself after an English class and wondered to yourself, how can I practice all that I learned in class?

Most students can never practice English outside the classroom.  Sure, they can memorize vocabulary, but that doesn’t help them speak.

Here is what the charts are for:  The charts are like your English speaking buddy, or friend.  They are like a native speaker who always speaks correct English.

With these charts you can ask and answer questions for hours.  Most importantly it is like you have a native speaker by your side to correct your mistakes.

Listen very closely:  As you ask and answer questions with the chart and correct your mistakes (with the charts) the structure of English will gradually implant itself in your brain.

You Really Have Two Choices When It Comes To Learning A Language

You can study grammar rules for years and then try to remember the rules when you want to speak.  Or you can practice speaking in a grammatically correct way, asking and answering questions until…

THE WHOLE PROCESS OF SPEAKING HAS BECOME AUTOMATIC

Here is exactly what I mean:  In my opinion, learning grammar rules is fine for a grammar test at school, but learning this way will take you a long time before you are fluent.

What we do at englishmasteracademy.com is a lot different.  We focus on one or two grammar elements at a time and do drills until they are automatic speech patterns.

So, not only can you speak easily, you also know the grammar rules intuitively because you’ve spoken them so many times.

Now, I want to talk about vocabulary.  Most students study vocabulary and divorce vocabulary learning from their use in real sentences.  They do this mainly because they don’t have a system for integrating vocabulary and grammar.

Here is what I mean:  I used to study word lists in German and Spanish.  I knew a lot of words, but I couldn’t use them in a sentence.  After I started integrating the new words into the grammar charts, it was very difficult to EVER FORGET THE NEW WORDS I STUDIED.

Why?   Because the more you put the words you are learning into meaningful sentences, the easier you will remember them…cutting months off of your vocabulary study time.

Now some of you may be saying:  “Shawn, it is so difficult to make questions and answers in English.”  Have no fear.  All you have to do is put the words you are learning into the charts you are studying with.

That way you will be learning to use the new vocabulary and you will be learning to speak perfect grammar at the same time.

I have NO DOUBT AT ALL that if you practice the englishmasteracademy.com way, you will cut years off the time it takes you to become fluent in English.  I hope you understand this.

If you remember nothing else remember this:  englishmasteracademy.com is not about memorizing phrases, or grammar rules.  It is all about embedding grammar into your brain through speaking and speaking.

Once the grammar is in your brain, you can produce thousands of sentences naturally, while most students are trying to remember the few rules and phrases they studied.

Ok, let’s talk a bit about the charts.  Here is how you should always practice the charts.  Remember, you should never be in a hurry.  This is not a race.  What you should do is practice with the chart until you can say everything without having to think.  That will take a little bit of time.

It is very important that you don’t read the chart.  This is never a reading exercise.  At first read the chart a little.  Later think about what you want to say and then say it.  I don’t want to sound gross or anything, but this process is like carving or engraving the grammar onto your brain.

This is the beautiful part.  With the exercises you are learning many things at the same time.  You are embedding grammar structure to your brain, and you are integrating and using new vocabulary.  There is actually so much more that is happening at the same time.  What’s so great about that?  Let me answer that with a question.

If you have the ability to practice speaking and making thousands of sentences and the language institute student practices English maybe 8 minutes out of an hour, how much more advanced will you be in speaking ability and vocabulary retention?

This will absolutely skyrocket your ability beyond what people using traditional methods can do, because in a short time like a week, you have months and months of speaking experience.

So, if you are serious about really learning English well, practice with this system.  I am not going to promise you that it will be easy.

Anyone who tells you that you can learn a new language without working very hard is a liar.  It’s like trying to become a professional soccer player or concert pianist without practicing.

I am not selling this as “Fun English” either.  The only people who should consider this program are the people after results, not entertainment.  When I want to be entertained I go to the movies.  When I go to my Russian or Korean academy I want the best education for my money.

If you don’t want to work hard, this program is not for you.

Ok.   When I make a lesson, I always use easy words for the most part.  I am not teaching you vocabulary.  At englishmasteracademy.com, the goal is to embed grammar into your mind, so I don’t want to clutter your mind with difficult to understand words.

Here’s the point:  Once you have the grammar in your mind, then you should add the new vocabulary (a lot of it).  Once the grammar is in your mind you can finally become creative with English.

If the grammar is not a habit for you, you will stumble before you speak.  That is why my approach is always grammar first, vocabulary second.

I have an ideas page at the end of every lesson, so that you can put new words into the drills for additional practice.  These pages are very important, because I want you to see that with just a few structures and some extra vocabulary you can produce thousands of sentences.

You know what?

I have a difficulty to remember things. One of my students told me one time: “Shawn teacher, you are dumb.” Of course, I didn’t like that. My college grade point average was pretty high, so I didn’t agree with her.

Here’s the point:  Although I forget many things like where my keys are…many of my friends in America thought I was a language learning genius, because of how quickly I could start speaking a language.

I am no genius, as that student who called me dumb can attest.  What I have is a system…a system where we take little pieces of grammar and learn them through speaking.

We learn them so well that we then can apply them with new words and new pieces of grammar.  We continue to learn all the little pieces of grammar until we can speak the harder grammar effortlessly.  But hard work comes first!

Don’t worry about how good or bad your experiences learning English have been before.  You can do it with a system.  It’s not that you can’t learn English; it’s just that no one has shown you how.  Trying to learn without a system by trial and error just takes too much time…time you could spend doing other things.  So that wraps it up.

Just a note for young learners:  Even if you just master the first two charts of each lesson (and don’t do the rest) you will be so much farther ahead of your classmates (especially if you use the easier words on the idea pages).

If you have any questions, send me an email.  I’d love to hear from you.
