Question
charts:
Chart
#1
Do I
have to do the
dishes?
you
need to take out
the trash
they
want to dust the furniture
you like
to polish the
furniture
sweep the floor
Does
he
mop the floor
she
dry the dishes
put away the dishes
set the table
vacuum
the carpet
Ex.
Does he have to dust the furniture? Yes he has to
dust the furniture. Or No, he
doesn't have to dust the furniture.
Chart
#2
What
do
I have
to do?
you need
to
we want
to
you like
to
they
does he
she
Ex. What do
they have to do? They have to take out the
trash.
Ok. I
want you to start with just one type of
question.
Let's start
with: "have to" which means "must" ("must" is a bit
stronger though).
Use the
question chart and make questions and answer
them.
Ask the
question (each time):
What do you have to
do?
I have to take out the trash.
I have to wash the dishes.
I have to dust the furniture.
I have to polish the furniture...
What does he have to do?
He has to take out the trash.
He has to wash the dishes.
He has to dust the furniture.
He has to polish the furniture...
Got it?
Ask the same questions for: he, she, they, and
we:
What does he have to do? (many times)
He has to mop the floor....
What does she have to do? (many times)
She has to sweep the floor....
Practice all of them many times. Practice until it is all
automatic. (And for the 1000th time: Don't read the
chart)
Please believe me. This is going to get a lot harder in a
minute, so practice hard.
Now do the same for: "want to" "need to" and "like
to".
You need to practice with all four until they are
automatic.
We are about to put a lot of things
together.
Audio
practice:
1.What
do they have to do? mop the floor
They
have to mop the floor.
2.What
does he need to do? do the
dishes
He needs to
do the dishes.
3.What does

7.What does
she have to do? dry the dishes
She has to
dry the dishes.
8.What do
you need to do? set the table
I need to
set the table.
Watch the
video
Next we
will practice with: "and then"

I have
to
do the
dishes
and then
You
need
to
take out the trash
We
want
to dust

They
sweep the floor
mop the floor
He
has
to
dry the dishes
She
needs
to put
away the dishes
wants
to
set the table
likes
to
vacuum the carpet
"then" =
"next"
Question
Chart:
What
do I
have to do
you need
to
we want
to
you like
to
does
he
she
Ok.
Now practice the same way (as above) but add 1 more thing
from column 3. Like:
What do you
have to do?
I have to
do the dishes and then polish the
furniture.
What does
she have to do?
She has
to dust the furniture and then mop the
floor.
Practice
this a lot (as always).
Now do the
same practice with: "need to" "want to" and "like
to"
Audio
practice:
1. What
does he have to do? mop the floor, dust the
furniture
He has to
mop the floor and then dust the

Next we are
going to make sentences with "but" using two things from
column 1 and two things from column 3. Like
this:
-I have to
wash the dishes but you have to dry the
dishes.
-I have to
sweep the floor, but they have to mop the
floor.
-I have to
dust the furniture, but he has to polish the
furniture.
-I have to
take out the trash, but she has to set the
table.
Got
it?
Practice
like this:
I-you
You-I
We-you
They-I
He-I
She-I
I-they You-we
We-they They-you
He-you She-you
I-he You-they
We-he
They-we
He-we
She-we
I-she
You-he
We-she They-they
He-they She-they
You-she They-he
He-he
She-he
They-she
He-she She-she
Practice
first with "have to". Then practice "want to"
"need to" and "like to". It should be easy if you
practiced "have to" well.
Audio
practice:
1. What do
you have to do? What do they have to do? do the
dishes; mop the floor
I have to
do the dishes but they have to mop the
floor.
2. What do
they have to do? What does he have to do? polish the
furniture; dust the furniture
They have
to polish the furniture, but he has to dust the
furniture.
3. What
does she like to do? What do you like to do? sweep the
floor; vacuum the carpet
She likes
to sweep the floor, but I like to vacuum the
carpet.
4. What
does he need to do? What does she need to do?
set the table, put away the dishes
He needs to
set the table, but she needs to put away the
dishes.
5. What do
you want to do? What do they want to do?take out the
trash; sweep the floor
I want to
take out the trash, but they want to sweep the
floor.
6. What
does he like to do? What do you two like to
do?
dust the
furniture; dry the dishes
He likes to
dust the furniture, but we like to dry the
dishes.
7.
What do you have to do? What do they have to do?
wash the dishes, dry the dishes
I have to
wash the dishes, but they have to dry the
dishes.
8. What do
I need to do? What does he need to do? vacuum
the carpet; do the dishes
You need to
vacuum the carpet, but he needs to do the
dishes.
Ok. I
hope you really learned that well.
Now we are
going to practice "want to" and "have to"
together.
Watch the
video
I
1) want to do the
dishes
but
You 1)
wanted to take out the
trash
We 2)
have to dust the
furniture
You 2) had
to polish
the furniture
They
sweep the floor
mop the floor
He
1) wants to dry the
dishes
She 1)wanted
to put away the dishes
2)
has to set
the table
2) had to vacuum the
carpet
Question
Chart:
What
do
you
want to do?
did
they
does
he
did she
Ok.
Now ask questions and answer
them.
Like
this:
Ex. 1 What
does she want to do? do the dishes; sweep the
floor
She wants
to do the dishes, but she has to sweep the
floor.
Or:
She has to
sweep the floor, but she wants to do the
dishes.
Ex. 2 What
did she want to do? do the dishes; sweep the
floor
She wanted
to do the dishes, but she had to sweep the
floor.
Or:
She had to
sweep the floor, but she wanted to do the
dishes.
Ex. 3 What
do they want to do? set the table; vacuum the
floor
They want
to set the table, but they have to vacuum the
floor.
Or:
They have
to vacuum the floor, but they want to set the
table.
Ex. 4 What
did they want to do? set the table; vacuum the
floor
They wanted
to set the table, but they had to vacuum the
floor.
Or:
They had to
vacuum the floor, but they wanted to set the
table.
Ok.
Make many questions for: "you" "they" "He" and "She",
ok?
Let's
change the chart a little bit. We will add a little
emphasis:
Watch the
video
I really 1)
want to do the
dishes but
unfortunately
You
1) wanted to take out the
trash and luckily
We
2) have to dust
the furniture and
fortunately
You 2)
had to
polish the furniture
They
sweep the floor
mop
the floor
He 1)
wants to dry the
dishes
She
1)wanted to put away the
dishes
2) has to
set the table
2) had to vacuum
the carpet
With
"unfortunately" we will do it like this:
I really
want to do the dishes, but unfortunately I have to take out
the trash.
I really
wanted to do the dishes, but unfortunately I had to take out
the trash.
With
"luckily" and "fortunately" we do it this
way:
I really
want to do the dishes and fortunately I have to do the
dishes.
I really
wanted to do the dishes and fortunately I had to do the
dishes.
I really
wanted to do the dishes and luckily I had to do the
dishes.
Do you
understand?
Now go to
the chart and practice these kinds of sentences. Do
many and don't read the chart.
Audio
exercise:
1. What did
she want to do? do the dishes; unfortunately; take out
the trash
She
really wanted to do the dishes, but unfortunately she
had to take out the trash.
2. What do
they want to do? mop the floor
luckily
They really
want to mop the floor and luckily they have to mop the
floor.
3. What
does he want to do? vacuum the carpet; unfortunately;
put away the dishes
He really
wants to vacuum the carpet, but unfortunately he has to put
away the dishes.
4. What did
you want to do? set the table,
fortunately
I really
wanted to set the table, and fortunately I had to set the
table.
5.
What does she want to do? polish the furniture;
unfortunately; dry the dishes
She really
wants to polish the furniture, but unfortunately she has to
dry the dishes.
6. What did
they want to do? take out the trash;
luckily
They really
wanted to take out the trash and luckily they had to take
out the trash.
7. What did
he want to do? put away the dishes; unfortunately; dry
the dishes
He really
wanted to put away the dishes, but unfortunately he had to
dry the dishes.
8. What do
you want to do? vacuum the carpet; unfortunately; mop
the floor
I really
want to vacuum the carpet, but unfortunately I have to mop
the floor.
The next
section is almost the same thing: We will practice
"have to" and "like to".
Watch the
video
I
1) have to do
the
dishes
but
You
had
to
take out the trash
and
We
2) like
to
dust the
furniture
You 2)really liked
to polish the
furniture 2)better
They
sweep the
floor
more
mop the
floor
He
1)has
to
dry the dishes
She
1) had to
put away the dishes
2) likes to set
the table
vacuum the carpet
For
now, practice like this:
Ex1. I had to do the dishes, but I
really liked to take out the trash
better.
Ex.2 I have to do the dishes, but
I really like to take out the trash
better.
Ex.3 I had to do the dishes, and I
really liked to do the dishes.
Ex.4 I have to do the dishes,
and I really like to do the
dishes.
Ok. Now we are going to do "want" "like" and "have to"
together.
Watch the video:
I
1) want to do
the dishes
1) but
You 2)
like to take
out the trash 2)
so
We 3) have to
dust
the furniture
You
polish the furniture
They
sweep the floor
mop
the floor
He 1)wants to
dry
the dishes
She 2)likes to
put
away the dishes
3)
has to
set the table
vacuum the carpet
If you want you can use the past tense too: wanted to,
liked to, had to
Here is how we do this one: "I" "he" "do the dishes"
"sweep the floor"
Present: I want to do the dishes, but he likes to do
the dishes so I have to sweep the floor.
Past: I wanted to do the dishes, but he liked to do the
dishes so I had to sweep the floor.
We won't do audio practice on this
one.
Practice like
this if you need to:
I-you
You-I
We-you
They-I
He-I
She-I
I-they You-we
We-they They-you
He-you She-you
I-he You-they
We-he
They-we
He-we
She-we
I-she
You-he
We-she They-they
He-they She-they
You-she They-he
He-he
She-he
They-she
He-she She-she
If you can make sentences easily with this chart your English
is getting pretty good.
Ok, now let's add some time to the charts.
Watch the video
Today

she
did
last week
didn't
last month
last year
First we are going to practice with "have to" and "don't have
to". We are going to practice many
ways:
Ask the question: What do you have to do
now? What don't you have to do
now?
1. -I have to do the dishes now but I don't have to take out
the trash.
Or: -I don't have to take out the trash now, but I have to do
the dishes.
We say "now" only one time
.
Watch the video
Practice like this: (Not an audio practice)
Note: if you want to add emphasis, do it like
this:
1. I don't have to do the dishes but I do have to take
out the trash.
We'll practice that a little while later. Don't worry about
it now.
2. What did you have to do yesterday? What didn't you
have to do yesterday?
-I had to do the dishes yesterday, but I didn't have to take
out the trash.
-I didn't have to take out the trash yesterday, but I (did have
to...) had to do the dishes.
3. What don't you have to do today? (2
things)
-I don't have to do the dishes today and I don't have to take
out the trash either.

out the trash either.
4. What do you have to do today, but he doesn't (have to do
today)?

dishes today.
What did you have to do yesterday, but he didn't (have to do

dishes yesterday.
5. What don't you have to do today? What doesn't he have
to do today?
-I don't have to sweep the floor, and he doesn't have to sweep
the floor either.
What didn't you have to do today? What didn't he have to
do today?
-I didn't have to sweep the floor and he didn't have to sweep
the floor either.
6. Today I have to sweep the floor and take out the
trash.
Or you can make it harder.
Today I have to sweep the floor, take out the trash, and dust
the furniture.
You can also make sentences with "or"
7. -Today I don't have to take out the trash or sweep the
floor.
-Yesterday he didn't have to sweep the floor or (have to) take
out the trash.
Ok. Now we will do some of last lesson: "Fun with
Personal Pronouns" with "want to" "need to" and "like
to"
Watch the video

you-you
they-them
it-it
First, we will practice like this : my-me; your-you;
his-him; our-us....
Last lesson we did the object pronouns "it" and "them."
Remember?
Now we will do all of them.
Second, we will practice like this:
my-you your-me
his-me her-me
our-me their-me
my-him your-him
his-you her-you our-you
their-you
my-her your-her
his-him her-him

your-us his-her
her-her
our-her their-her
my-them your-them his-us
her- us our-them
their-us
his-them
her-them
This will make you tired. I am 100% sure of that.
If you get tired, just stop. Actually you should only
practice this for 20 minutes and then take a break.
Ok?
Audio practice

Ok. In the next
chart we are going to use "go" "went" and "have to" "had
to" "need to" and "needed to."
We will also use
"before that" and "after that"
Watch the
video

This is not
hard. We will use one sentence from chart 1 and one
from chart 2. Like this:
What did you do

-Yesterday I
went to the beach. Before that
I had to sweep the
